1. Darkness
“Amgine, she's your mother; she'll love you no matter what.” That’s what the social worker named Barbra had told me exactly two and a half hours ago, before she put me on a plane from Chicago to Baltimore. I was so caught up in this thought that I didn't realize the flight attendant was trying to get my attention.
3. Mirrors
I glared out the window giving my best attempt to look menacing; the object of my disapproval was hard to see due to the fact that it was now dark outside. All I knew was that the thing was steeply slanted, 20 feet above solid ground and it didn’t stare back.
Damn roof. I thought to myself.
I let a sigh break my concentration. I missed my old roof.
2. In Memory
Like the rest of the house, my room was beautiful. It had a high slanted ceiling and a large window facing the backyard which was at least an acre of wooded area. I sighed, looking around the room once more, taking in the loveliness it all. Three of the walls were painted white and one was painted a deep navy blue which matched perfectly with the navy embroidery on the white, down comforter. This was all offset by the silver head and foot board.
